From the not really news but certainly worth watching category Duke class of 2013 target Julius Randle certainly got my attention with a recent comment on Adam Zagoria's blog. According to ZagsBlog.com Randle could see himself playing for Duke's arch rival North Carolina.
The comment was made in a post about how Duke class of 2012 commit Rasheed Sulaimon was working on recruiting Randle, among others, to join him at Duke.
While the comment in and of itself isn't a big issue and of course and is in no way an indication that Randle is leaning in any one direction it does strike a nerve among certain Duke fans.
It was just a few years ago when the Blue Devils were seen to be the favorite for one Harrison Barnes but then Barnes spurned Duke at the 11th hour for the Tar Heels and no Blue Devil fan is eager for a repeat of that debacle.
But like I said Randle has expressed no favorites and doesn't even have a list of favorites at this point. The only list attached to his name is one featuring a who's who list of basketball blue bloods who have all offered him a scholarship.
Duke's biggest targets for the class of 2013 are Randle and Jabari Parker. And while getting both would be a Blue Devil dream come true it is more likely they get only one or none at all. If they were not to land either it would only be made worse if one of the two chose North Carolina.
Currently the only commit from that class, Matt Jones, is also actively trying to recruit Randle to join him in Durham. The two are both from Texas and very close, but that also is no guarantee that Randle will choose Duke.
At this point the recruiting process for 2013 has a long way to go and Duke has a lot of targets with Randle being a top one of course. As fans we will just have to wait and see how things shake out but it certainly doesn't hurt when you have players like Sulaimon and Jones working in your favor when the coaches can't.
Still hearing one of your top targets could see himself in that pale shade of blue does give you pause.
