It’s almost March – you know that’s the best time at SCACCHoops. Right after the New Year began, we gave you the @HokieGuru Twitter 200, including a sample of college sports (e.g. football, men’s basketball, and college hockey) 100 bloggers and 100 media accounts that you should follow on Twitter. We also put out a call to get some nominations for those that we missed. And you can see the results of that query right here. Make sure you give these accounts a follow because they provide some great insight.
Now, I’m going to talk here about the future of journalism – and that future is bright with many talented young Hokies out there. Some of these folks will graduate this year – others you’ll see on the staff of the Virginia Tech student newspaper, the @CollegiateTimes, next year. And these folks have a bright future. There’s a great group you need to follow on Twitter. Without further ado, here we go:
1.
@JoshParcell – One of the veterans of this group. Josh Parcell is a senior at Virginia Tech. He has interned at ESPN and with the Atlantic Coast Conference. He has also established an outstanding ACC blog called
ACC Mania, which you need to check out. He is also an outstanding reporter with
@CTSportsTalk.
3.
@KBurkeVT – Kevin Burke, a wily vet in this list, is the 2012 Broadcaster for the Corvallis Knights. He was an intern with the Virginia Tech IMG Sports Network. He is also a contributor for
@TheKeyPlay.
6.
@r_durham14 – Ryan Durham is the sports manager for Virginia Tech’s student radio station, WUVT FM 90.7 FM. He is also a contributor to
Hokies N’ Noos.
7.
@VTCody – Cody Elliot is a junior at Virginia Tech. He is an intern for Super Sports 101.7, the New River Valley’s Fox Sports Radio affiliate. He is also a sports reporter for the
@CollegiateTimes (and he’ll be the track and field reporter this spring).
8.
@ZMarinerCT – Zach Mariner is a sophomore and a sports editor for the
@CollegiateTimes. I’ve seen him move onto the Virginia Tech men’s basketball beat this year and he’s done a very good job.
10.
@Nik_A_Bando – Nik Bando was the brainchild behind the Extra Point, Virginia Tech’s student newspaper dedicated to Hokie Football. He was also an intern with The Economist in London. Please check out this
this feature on him in the Pamphlin College of Business Magazine.
And there you go – I would say that the future of journalism is in good hands. Go Hokies!!
Stay tuned to
@scacchoops in March – and all year round!!
