Could Jack be the Answer for the Heels?

Kadeem Jack

Kadeem Jack

You might not know Jack about Jack, but take it from someone who has seem him play, he would be a good one to have. On the other hand, and I am definitely not a scout, he might not be the solution to the immediate problem that head coach Roy Williams, his staff and the team have. But first things first, whom am I talking about? Senior forward Kadeem Jack, a 6′9″/210 lbs power forward from Rice High School (N.Y.) that Rivals has as a three star recruit. He is the most mentioned player when it comes to who could help out the Tar Heels after the untimely (and sneaky) departure of the Wear twins. Now, what am I talking about? Jack could definitely be a good player to bring to Chapel Hill, but do not think that he is going to be “the player” that will solve problems for upcoming season. He is going to be a work in progress and one that needs to develop (with time unfortunately) and that is something that coach Williams won’t have for the `10-`11 season. I have no doubt that Jack would become a crowd favorite as he plays in the Dean Dome, but I am not very sure if his arrival this season would make much of an impact.

I have seen Kadeem Jack play, I like his style on both sides of the ball, and most of all I think he has that “chip on the shoulder” attitude (ala Danny Green) that is sometimes needed to be as good as you can be when competing. If, and this is a big if, Jack was to come to North Carolina (instead of going to prep school this year or to another college), I would say he would get between 12-15-18 minutes a game. In that time frame he would have to basically not be a liability as the starters (Tyler Zeller and John Henson) take a breather. In that role I think that the young man from Harlem would do just fine. Where I would be scared to see him is if he was to have to get major minutes (due to an injury or one of the starters being in foul trouble).

If I was the one that had to make the decision on whether or not to take the young man from the Empire state, originally from Trinidad & Tobago, I would definitely take him. Unfortunately that might make the fan base think that the problem of the front line has been fixed, and that we will not know until Jack shows up (if he was to come to UNC) on campus and starts playing. One thing is for sure though, the senior forward seems to be a big time fan of UNC, making that a plus for the Heels, especially when you think that joining the hunt for his services is John Calipari and Kentucky. From the sounds of it Jareed Jack will visit UNC before he goes to UK, if we are lucky he will be so mesmerozied that he will sign his Letter of Intent right then and there and will be part of the Carolina Family.
