Lost a bit in Pitt's win over Florida International was the fact that running back James Conner's big day was record-breaking.
Conner didn't have a perfect game with the costly fumbles - that much is clear. But at the end of the day, he still racked up 177 yards on the ground and another three touchdowns. Those yards now give him 544 on the season through the team's first three games, and that is the most all-time for a Pitt running back after three contests.
Conner broke Tony Dorsett's record during his freshman season in 1973.
Again, the competition Pitt has faced to date has been suspect. In addition, the fumbling issues were a big problem today. Still, Conner overcame the slow start and eventually not only got going, but had a huge day. On the year, he's now averaging 181.3 yards per game, which would put him on pace for nearly 2,200 yards. That won't happen, obviously, as Pitt's opponents get better, but so far so good.
