Looking at UNC's Running Back Position

North Carolina finally has depth at the running back position and all four backs will see the field early in the season.  It will be interesting to see how Seth Littrell involves each running back in the offense and if one or two of these players separates them self from the rest of group.

TJ Logan was not available for North Carolina early in the year do to an injury however once he was able to step on the field you can see why Tar Heel fans are excited about his future.  Logan may be the best home run threat in the entire group showing explosiveness in and out of the backfield.  Logan is also dangerous in special teams where he returned a kickoff  78 yards against Cincinatti for a touchdown.  Logan will have to be more consistent in the Tar Heel offense to maintain his starting position.

Romar Morris is the forgotten man in this group after a 2013 year that was plagued by injuries. Morris is a homerun threat anytime he touches the football.  He also is versatile demonstrating an ability to catch passes out of the backfield.  The depth at the running back position is another reason I believe Morris will see more time in the “A” Back position this year forcing linebackers to try and cover a player with his skills in space.

Kris Francis is a power pack that can gain yards in between the tackles and on short yardage situations.  Francis will have to increase his yards per carry from 3.7 per attempt last season.  Offensive Coordinator Seth Littrell features more two back and play action plays in his offense which should benefit Francis who picked up pass blocking quickly as a rookie.

Elijah Hood is going to play this season, but the question remains to be how many reps will the 230 pound freshman receive.  Elijah Hood is big, fast and a smart football player.  Larry Fedora has been impressed with how quickly the freshman is picking up the blocking assignments.

There is not question the Tar Heels have talent at the running back position in 2014, but there is only one football therefore the fight for the main ball carrier at UNC is one story to watch as the season develops.
