The future of NC State basketball had many questions following the spring of 2013.  Could Mark Gottfried find a way to navigate the ACC in 2013-2014 with Rodney Purvis transferring along with having to replace all five starters?  TJ Warren was the the answer to each of these questions, but now the question for NC State is what will life look like without their leading scorer and ACC player of the year?

Looking back on 2013-2014, Mark Gottfried did one of the best coaching jobs in the country.  He replaced his entire starting lineup from the previous year and saw one of his McDonald’s All Americans transfer to UCONN. With the deck stacked against him Mark Gottfried took a team many expected to fall to the bottom of the ACC and played its way into the NCAA tournament before falling to St Louis.

Dean Smith said a player grows the most between their freshman and sophomore years and Anthony Barber needs to put his stamp on the team in 2014-2015.  Without Warren NC State will need the sophomore to increase his efficiency on the offensive end and recognize open shooters off of penetration.  At times during his freshman season Barber was out of control which forced Gottfried to go to Tyler Lewis at the point.  The Wolfpack will have to prepare someone to back up Barber at point guard with the departure of Tyler Lewis to Butler. The Wolfpack will count on Barber, Lee and Turner to make up much of the offensive scoring however the wildcard in the backcourt is Alabama transfer Trevor Lacey.  Lacey a former five star commit for Anthony Grant and the Crimson Tide will join Mark Gottfried’s backcourt this fall after sitting out the 2013-2014 season. Mark Gottfried has taken NC State to three NCAA tournaments to begin his tenure in Raleigh.  Gottfried is building a program in Raleigh which is great for the triangle and the ACC.
