It was reported last week that Washington was to have surgery regarding a tumor in his brain. News broke Monday, four days post-op, that the findings were not good.

Syracuse Orange legend Dwayne 'Pearl' Washington had surgery last Thursday to address a tumor doctors discovered in his brain earlier this month. On Monday, it was reported by Peter Vecsey that the tumor is malignant.

"Nauseating news regarding Pearl Washington: I'm told golf-sized malignant tumor was found & not all could be removed during brain surgery," Vecsey said in a tweet Monday. He followed up with saying that, once healthy, Washington will need to undergo radiation and/or chemotherapy.

The Syracuse star has received lots of support from fans and alumni but his family is currently withholding much of the news regarding Pearl's condition while they figure things out. As many of the Orange faithful know, Washington values his privacy but a friend of the family has assured everyone that the public will find out more as more information comes along.

Washington, 51, remains at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.

This is not the first time Washington has dealt with a brain tumor; twenty years ago, he underwent a similar situation but that tumor was determined to be benign.

You can support Pearl and his family by using the hashtag #PrayersforPearl on social media.
