Syracuse: Freshman Naesean Howard No Longer Part of Program

The first player to commit as part of the Class of 2014 is no longer on the football team.

The Palindrome is gone.

West Genesee RB/S Naesean Howard was offered a scholarship to play football at Syracuse by Doug Marrone back in October 2012. Howard ended up being the first recruit to commit to play for the Orange in the Class of 2014, calling it his "dream school" at the time.

Alas, the dream is over. Howard and SU have parted ways and he is no longer a part of the program.

"We have decided to part ways. We wish Naesean all the best in the future," coach Scott Shafer said in a statement issued Tuesday evening.

No reason was given for the change in Howard's status, and it is unknown if he will have a chance to rejoin the team in the future.

Howard's tenure got off to a rocky start in August when he was suspended indefinitely and not allowed to travel with the team to Fort Drum. Shafer said that Howard missed a curfew and he was hopeful it was something he could put behind him. No word on whether or not this is related. Howard's Twitterfeed has been deleted so nothing there either.

Fare thee well, Naesean. Good luck in your endeavors.
