Syracuse basketball trying to get back involved with Jordan Tucker

Can SU make a late push?

On Thursday, Syracuse coaches Jim Boeheim and Gerry McNamara went down to Georgia to visit with Class of 2017 four-star prospect Jordan Tucker, a source confirmed to TNIAAM.

The news was first reported by Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv.

This trip to visit Tucker comes one day after sophomore forward Tyler Lydon announced he was entering the 2017 NBA Draft.

Syracuse is in the market to add a scoring wing, which is exactly what Tucker is. He’s an athletic, 6-foot-7 prospect who loves to get out in transition. He’s a nature scorer, can get into the lane with ease and is also a knockdown shooter from deep.

He’s always had high interest in Syracuse, but the Orange backed off his recruitment a few months ago and Tucker eventually cut SU from his list.

Georgia Tech, Indiana, Oregon and Villanova are the schools that are still involved with Tucker, but the Hoosiers chances took a major hit once Tom Crean was fired. Tucker and Crean were close and had a very strong relationship.

On December 21, Tucker cut his list to Villanova and Indiana. Georgia Tech, however, got involved recently and are making a legitimate push at his talents.

Syracuse is trying to do the same now — and it’s a big-time move that Jim Boeheim went to Georgia with McNamara to show the importance the program sees in Tucker. And that type of move doesn’t go unnoticed by Tucker, his family or the coaching staff at Wheeler HS.

Jordan is planning a visit back to New York in a few weeks, which could also include a visit to Syracuse, according to a source. Nothing is set in stone quite yet, though.

Tucker is the type of talent that will see major minutes his freshman season wherever he goes, and Syracuse could use another shooter/scorer to go alongside Tyus Battle next season.
