Pitt running back James Conner named Maxwell Player of the Week

Most of the time when the national clubs that distribute awards during the week, you can almost always disregard them. Out of all of the FBS schools, to win one at Pitt (unless you're Aaron Donald, I suppose) is next to impossible.

That wasn't the case this week, however, as running back James Conner was named the Maxwell Football Club's Player of the Week. Conner won the award based on piling up 214 rushing yards against Boston College on the road last Friday.

The Maxwell Award is given to the top player in college football annually.

Just a really nice piece of recognition for Conner. Competing for the Maxwell or Heisman is going to be an uphill challenge, obviously. But the more of these types of awards he wins, the more he'll factor into national discussion. And in the end - that's just more attention for Pitt and another recruiting selling point for Paul Chryst.
