Pitt reportedly breaks football season ticket record

Pitt’s football program has been pushing season ticket sales for some time now. No more mini-plan packages remain and only some full-season packages are left.

Athletics director Scott Barnes announced on Twitter that the Panthers have actually broken the all-time record for season ticket sales with nearly 54,000:

That’s great news obviously and it’s possible to sell even more with the addition to Heinz Field last year, pushing capacity just under 69,000. Obviously, the big draw this year was the Penn State game and the athletics department capitalized well on that.

Selling the tickets is great and now it’s up to the program to give people a reason to use those tickets. While some Penn State fans who purchased plans to simply have the Pitt-Penn State game may not use the tickets, the strong sales still indicate the team can have big crowds if they simply win games. Excitement surrounding the program is arguably the highest it’s been in years and keeping that momentum going is important for the long-term health of the football team.
