Pitt RB James Conner ranks second in the nation in rushing

Pitt's James Conner is having a heck of a season so far. Despite being used sparingly in the Panthers' opener against Delaware, the Pitt running back is among the nation's best in rushing yardage.

Conner has 367 rushing yards through two games and ranks second in all of the FBS. His 367 yards are behind only UTEP running back Aaron Jones and his five rushing touchdowns are tied with a few others for the top spot in the nation.

With only 50 attempts so far, Conner is averaging a gaudy 7.3 yards per carry.

It's early and Pitt's level of competition hasn't matched that of other teams, of course. Still, to see Conner having so much success this early is beyond encouraging. We're a long ways from talking postseason awards, and truthfully, to win, Pitt will need to contend in the ACC or Conner will need to have a monster year. But if he keeps it up even after the level of competition increases, he could find himself in the discussion.
