North Carolina basketball recruiting: Naz Reid includes Tar Heels in top 10 list

A new top prospect for Tar Heel fans to yearn for.

The Tar Heels missed out on Kevin Knox this signing period, but as they say, there are other fish in the sea. One of those fish is New Jersey big man Nazreon Reid, who recently announced a new top 10 list that includes North Carolina. Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Rutgers, Seton Hall, UCLA, and UConn also made the list.

I mention Reid in the company of Knox because he is a five-star prospect who is considered one of the top recruits for 2018. The six-foot-ten big man ranks 12th on the national composite. He is also considered the fourth-best power forward in his class and the best player out of his home state.

Reid cut his list down by excluding St. John’s and Maryland from consideration. It’s unclear where North Carolina ranks in his considerations, but he has yet to visit campus and the Tar Heels are one of only two teams (along with Kentucky) that have not yet offered him a scholarship. Given this kid’s talent level, it can only be expected that an official offer is just a matter of time. They just need to get him on campus soon.

Whether or not Tony Bradley decides to return for his sophomore year at Carolina, it’s very likely that he would only be around for the next year before heading back to the NBA Draft for good. That would open the door for a guy like Reid to find immediate playing time in Chapel Hill. Carolina will be a bit thin down low in 2017, and getting an addition like Reid for the next year would be a big boost.
