If there is one Boston College you need to worry about, it's their quarterback Tyler Murphy.

Pitt player that needs to "step up" - Matt Galambos

Boston College is relying a lot of their hopes for the 2014 season on Tyler Murphy. It is already clear from the outside that Murphy is their most important offensive player, and he holds the key to their season. Murphy led the team to a win against in-state rivals UMass last week. It took a while for things to click, but once they did Boston College rolled to an easy 30-7 win. Murphy did it all by throwing for over 100 yards and rushing for over 100, it was an impressive debut, and his dual threat ability is something that can really keep Pitt off balance on Friday.

Pitt had a very easy day last week with Delaware, and the defense pitched a shut out and were dominant in all phases.  Pitt created turnovers, pressured the quarterback, and clogged running lanes. We thought Michael Johnson and Trent Hurley might put something together for Delaware, but it never happened.  Pitt overwhelmed the Blue Hens, but that probably won't happen again this week. Pitt has three new starters on the defensive line, and it will be important for them to play contain football and not let Murphy run outside the pocket.  The whole defense will need to be ready, but I'm putting a lot of responsibility on Pitt's sophomore middle linebacker, Matt Galambos.

The middle linebacker holds a lot of jobs on the defensive side of the ball, and Galambos will be dealt with a tough assignment of stopping their tough stable of running backs (338 total rushing yards), while keeping track of Murphy as well.  Galambos seemed to be around the ball a lot during camp, but came up with just two tackles last week.  He did have an interception, and in fairness, the whole defense was swarming so tackles were hard to come by with everyone else taking them.  Overall, this is one of Galambos' first true tests, he played in some big moments last year, but this is a tough assignment defending a strong running game and dealing with a mobile QB on national television.
