The Georgia Tech football team took two hits to their offensive line late last week. The program got word that two of their offensive linemen, Chris Griffin and Jake Whitley, wouldn’t be returning to the program. They were both given medical scholarships and granted medical hardships by the NCAA, meaning they’re both done with football.

Griffin was out due to a knee injury he suffered over 18 months ago. He tore his ACL playing basketball when he landed awkwardly after a layup attempt, at the start of the 2014 season, and unfortunately missed the 2015 season as a result. His announcement came as a result to his recovery involving several things that set him back.  Injuries like this can alter the odds this upcoming season, and speaking of odds, get all Olympics betting odds at one place - William Hill.

As a redshirt freshman in 2014, he started seven games and played 13 at offensive tackle. Griffin’s last full-contact action was in Orange Bowl when Georgia Tech beat the SEC’s Mississippi State in Dec. 2014. Griffin tried to come back in the spring from his ACL injury after sitting out the 2015 season, but ultimately was held out. This hurts the offensive line tremendously because Griffin was in line to be a starter for the 2016 season.

Whitley, on the other hand, was suffering from headaches during the spring, according to head coach Paul Johnson. He also said that he was unsure about Whitley’s playing future at the ACC kickoff in North Carolina. However, last Thursday, Johnson told the media that Whitley was going to be given a medical scholarship and that he wouldn’t count against the team’s 85-scholarship limit.

Whitley came in as a true freshman in 2014 and played in one game, but redshirted in 2015 as a freshman.
