Game Recap

Syracuse only has three games left in the conference before tournament play.

After dropping two straight games, the Syracuse Orange traveled down to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech. It was a typical Syracuse game as the Orange fell behind by as much as 13 only to surge back late. Ultimately the comeback campaign came up short as Georgia Tech won 71-65.

The first half was mostly a defensive battle but Taurean Thompson and Andrew White were able to get going on the offensive end for SU. Syracuse played ahead for most of the first, but a late run by Georgia Tech trimmed the Syracuse lead to 32-29 at intermission.

Syracuse allowed Tech to continue its run out the break and as a result found itself down by double-digits. Syracuse did as Syracuse does and made a late comeback to make the game interesting. Stop me if you’ve heard this before.

With less than a minute remaining, John Gillon hit a corner three to cut the Georgia Tech lead to three. On the ensuing possession Tyler Lydon forced a turnover, got fouled and made one-of-two to make it a two point game.

Syracuse would eventually foul with 15.5 to go and Josh Heath would knock down both to push the lead back to four. Gillon would miss a three on the next possession and Georgia Tech would seal the deal on the other end.

Stats

Taurean Thompson led the way with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Andrew White had 17 and 7 rebounds while Lydon finished with 7 points and 15 boards.

Syracuse finished the game shooting 35.7 percent from the floor and 26.7 percent from deep.

Next Up

Syracuse now returns home to host Duke on Wednesday. That game tips off at 7 pm from the Carrier Dome and will air on ESPN.
