After weeks of rumors suggesting it would happen, it was announced on Sunday that Derryck Thornton would transfer from Duke.
The situation which had been looming for some time was summed up well by Ben Swain on twitter.
Got some questions earlier today about the Derryck Thornton thing, so here’s my view of what happened from up close: pic.twitter.com/bXRkUd72c3

Duke will turn to a combination of players to handle point guard duties next season. Without a true point guard on the roster, a shared role is expected similar to last season. You can bet one reason Grayson Allen returned was the opportunity to be more of a playmaker and show his skills in that light. Certainly, incoming freshman Frank Jackson is a combo guard and capable of filling the role. Also, don't rule out Jayson Tatum playing point forward in a similar way that Brandon Ingram did at times this season.
The Blue Devils will be just fine after this transfer, one that is likely best for all sides. It will also open up a scholarship for Duke, one that might just go to McDonald's All-American big man, Marques Bolden.
