Duke offers 2014 Power Forward Kevon Looney

With the Class of 2013 basically wrapped up, Duke has moved most of their recruiting focus on to the junior class. Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor remain atop the Blue Devils’ wish list but Duke will likely need to replace wings Jabari Parker and Rodney Hood after next season. That is in addition to Josh Hairston and Tyler Thornton, as well as Andre Dawkins, were he to return after taking a redshirt season this year.

For the Class of 2014, Duke now has 6 offers out to prospects, although there are potentially only 4 spots open. Two are to the above mentioned Jones and Okafor while small forwards Justise Winslow and Theo Pinson plus power forward Trey Lyles held the others until this past weekend. With the Blue Devils having some time off between their Georgia Tech game and the Miami game tomorrow, Coach K took advantage of that time to visit with a few prospects in the Midwest. BlueDevilNation.net first reported that 6’8″ power forward Kevon Looney from Milwaukee received the sixth scholarship offer after Krzyzewski and Jeff Capel, Looney’s primary recruiter, watched his game on Saturday.

Jabari Parker seemingly will man the power forward position next season for Duke but after he moves on, only Amile Jefferson will remain. With two offers out to power forwards in the junior class, it’s clear this is an area of focus. However, things between Lyles and the Blue Devils are hazy at best, so this may be more of a signal that Duke has moved on to Looney than it is that they are looking to add both of them.

Will Looney be Duke’s first commit in the Class of 2014? Discuss in the comments below.
