Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney announced Thursday night that starting kicker Ammon Lakip has been suspended for the first three games of the 2015 season, meaning he will not suit up when the Tigers face Louisville on Sept. 17 at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

Lakip, a redshirt senior, was suspended indefinitely on June 24 after being arrested 18 days earlier for failing multiple field sobriety tests. A subsequent search of his car yielded 0.4 grams of cocaine. He was ultimately charged with DUI and cocaine possession.

A season ago, Lakip connected on 21 of 28 field goal attempts, and hit 43 of 44 PATs. His 106 total points were easily the most of any Clemson player, well ahead of wide receiver Artavis Scott's 48. Lakip was perfect in Clemson's 23-17 win over Louisville, hitting all three of his field goal attempts (including a long of 45) and both of his PATs.

With Lakip sidelined, Swinney said redshirt freshman walk-on Greg Huegel will start at kicker in the Tigers' season-opener against Wofford on Sept. 5. Clemson will face Appalachian State a week later before their Thursday night showdown in The Ville.
