Class of 2017 wing Jordan Tucker picks Duke over Syracuse

Syracuse couldn’t hold off the Blue Devils.

Class of 2017 four-star wing Jordan Tucker has committed to Duke, he announced on Twitter.

Tucker, who is originally from White Plains, N.Y., chose the Blue Devils over the Orange in a long, eventful recruitment.

Duke had quietly been in contact with Tucker for a while, and told him the only way he would get an offer was if Kevin Knox went elsewhere. Well, Knox committed to Kentucky last weekend and the Blue Devils extended a scholarship offer the next day.

Tucker was on the Duke campus this past week (Wednesday & Thursday) for an official visit, which eventually sold him on the school.

Syracuse had been after Tucker since his sophomore year at Archbishop Stepinac. The coaching staff extended a scholarship offer back in 2014.

Tucker eliminated the Orange back in December after communication between the two sides started to become less and less.

But after Tyler Lydon declared for the NBA Draft, Syracuse had no choice but to get back involved. Jim Boeheim and Gerry McNamara went down to Georgia and rekindled the relationship.

In fact, Tucker told Scout.com’s Evan Daniels he was ready to commit to Syracuse last week, but decided to wait on Kevin Knox’s decision.

Gerry McNamara was Tucker’s primary recruiter.

Syracuse has two open scholarships remaining for next year’s team.
