Cheick Diallo passes on Pitt, will attend Kansas

With Pitt facing steep competition for 2015 power forward/center Cheick Diallo, many fans expected him passing on the Panthers was a foregone conclusion. Diallo made that official by announcing he will attend Kansas, choosing the Jayhawks of Pitt, Kentucky, Iowa State, and St. John's.

Yeah, so ... avert your eyes.

While Kentucky was a trendy pick just because of the amount of one-and-done players they have landed, an indication that Diallo was leaning towards Kansas came earlier has he met with Bill Self recently.

For Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon, it's another miss on a top prospect the team could have desperately used. But when you're competing against programs that have won national championships, landing someone the caliber of Diallo is just very difficult. While it's fair to criticize Dixon for other things, it's really hard to get too worked up that he lost a kid to a perennial Top ten program. To be honest, losing a guy like Mike Thorne to Illinois is more of a cause for concern than this.

Still, it's frustrating for Pitt to be in the running for a top kid like that for as long as they were and then lose out at the last minute.

And when you add in Mustapha Heron's recent decommitment ...

Welp.
