Boston College in good hands with Steve Addazio

I like Steve Addazio at Boston College. I think he’s the right man there, but make no mistake Boston College choked away the Pinstripe Bowl to Penn State. Up 21-7 late in the 3rd qtr, you have to feel pretty good when you are a power running team and have a QB like Tyler Murphy. Then you go up 30-24 on a TD pass, but your FG kicker hooks the XP so badly it would have missed with an extra 6 feet in width on the goalposts. You still have a chance, 3rd and 15, and the defense can’t make a play, then 3rd and 7 and the defense lets down again.

Steve Addazio

I’m sure Addazio felt like punching a hole in a wall at the end of this one.

Once the dust settles, though Addazio knows what he has to do if we wants to keep up in the formidable looking ACC Atlantic. He’s brought toughness and energy to the Boston College program now he needs athletes, and he needs improved special teams.

8 missed extra points on the season is simply inexcusable at this level of football.  Throw in 7 missed FGs and Boston College missed a whopping 15 kicks this year. That’s nearly 30 points Boston College left on the table. I am sure this will be priority in the off-season.

Boston College needs additional depth and talent on defense. Too many times this year, Clemson, FSU, Colorado St., Penn State, the Eagles couldn’t make defensive stops late in games when it was needed.

Addazio inherited a program on life support. He’s got BC back to respectability, now he needs to hit the recruiting trail hard and find those difference making players in particular on defense, and for goodness sake get the position of kicker squared away.

This game put some sting in an otherwise credible 7-6 season for Boston College, that included a non-conference win over the USC Trojans.
