Bobby Petrino 'not close to a decision' on starting quarterback

Multiple times this summer, Louisville football coach Bobby Petrino has stated that he'd like to have his starting quarterback decided two weeks before the teams' season-opener on Sept. 5 against Auburn.

Well, if you'd planned a "quarterback reveal party" for tomorrow, you'd might want to let your guests know that they can save their gifts (Gardnering hose, Bolin ball, Jackson 5 cd, etc.) for another time.

"I'm not close to a decision at all," Petrino told the media before U of L's Kickoff Luncheon at the Kentucky International Convention Center. "They've all had days where they played real well, and they've all improved and all understand the offense better. I think we are throwing the ball better as far as our timing goes, accuracy goes. And then they've all had moments where they haven't did what we expect them to."

Petrino later addressed the topic of his own timeline.

"Ideally after tomorrow's scrimmage you'd like to have a starter named," he said. "I'm not sure if that's going to work out. I guess we'll have to see how it all plays out. Usually I like to have two weeks where you work and you know who your starting quarterback is. This has been a very close competition, and they've all had their moments. We'll see how tomorrow goes and evaluate the film all day Sunday and Monday."

I'm preparing myself more and more for the reality that we may not know who the starting quarterback is until a day or two before, or even the morning of Sept. 5. If that gives U of L a better chance to upset Auburn, then hey, we don't need to know.
