The last three years Virginia Tech has averaged 7.3 wins a season. This is the worst 3 year stretch of Virginia Tech football since the early 90s, and it’s raised questions about the future of the program under Frank Beamer. There is hope though. Last year the Hokies went to Ohio State, and beat the eventual national champions by 2 TDs in a vintage Hokie performance. The defense was one of the nation’s best, and playmakers are starting to emerge on offense. Does Frank Beamer have few more tricks up his sleeve? Can the Hokies return to being one of the ACC’s premier teams this year?

Will Go 10-2 (7-1) if:
That offense comes alive. Defensively the Hokies will be fine, but Virginia Tech’s offense in recent years has been a mess of poor playing calling, an inconsistent offensive line, and shaky QB play. It can’t get worse can it? The offense was ranked 96th in the country last year, and it could be better this year. Bucky Hodges may be the ACC’s best TE. Isaiah Ford is an absolute talent at WR. There’s some weapons on offense. If Michael Brewer can be consistent at quarterback and the offense is just adequate, the defense can do the rest. The defense is loaded at each level, and some are calling it Bud Foster’s best group in nearly a decade.

Will Go 7-5 (4-4) if:
QB Michael Brewer and that offensive line don’t improve. Last year for the Hokies proved that if you can’t score, you’ll have trouble winning games no matter how good a defense is. The schedule isn’t brutal, but there are enough landmines that another disappointing 7 win season is possible. Ohio State and always dangerous East Carolina are on the non-conference schedule. Pittsburgh, NC State, Miami, Duke, and Georgia Tech are all good enough to beat Virginia Tech if that offense is struggling.
