NC State
Going into November last year, the Wolfpack sat 4-4 and were on a 4 game losing streak. Following a 3 win 2013, NC State looked they might be headed to towards another ugly season. The Wolfpack turned things around, and won 4 of their final 5 games including a blowout of in-state rival UNC, and a bowl win. NC State won 8 games, and optimism abounds for 2015. They’ve become a trendy darkhorse pick in the ACC Atlantic. Is NC State really ready to compete with likes of FSU, Clemson, and Louisville in the ACC Atlantic?

Will Go 10-2 (6-2) if:
Jacoby Brissett can put a full season together at quarterback. Brissett’s talent is undeniable, but had some moments of inconsistency last year. In a conference loaded at the quarterback position, Brissett is one of the better ones. The Wolfpack also need to take advantage of a soft non-conference schedule. Troy, Eastern Kentucky, at Old Dominion, and at South Alabama should lead to a 4-0 start to the season.

NC State plays at Virginia Tech, host Louisville and Clemson and go to FSU. I can see a 2-2 split. NC state should be considerably better than anyone else on their schedule. The offense will be solid, and if the defense is just marginally better 10-2 is a possibility. A split with Louisville and Virginia Tech early could lead to a 5-1 start before hosting Clemson.

Will Go 7-5 (3-5) if:
NC State stays historically stuck in mud. The Wolfpack have had exactly 1 season since 2002 with more than 8 wins. Even with a favorable schedule, NC State has to prove they are more than 7-8 win program. They are certainly good enough to make a bowl under any circumstances, but that defense can’t give up 27 points a game again. I like this team offensively, but the defense has question marks.

Virginia Tech, Louisville, Clemson, and FSU could all be losses, and then throw in an off game and it would be a real letdown to go 7-5. The Wolfpack lost to the 4 best teams they played last year – all by double digits. (FSU, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Clemson). Dave Doeren has to get his team to believe they can beat the upper end ACC teams.
