Notre Dame picked up a big conference road win when the Irish defeated UNC 71-70 in the Smith Center on Monday night. Notre Dame shot lights out from long range making 10 3 pointers leading to an eFG% of 56%. UNC's eFG% finished at 40% and that big advantage led the Irish to having a 6-10 point advantage for a large part of the game. UNC fought back, thanks to an inspired effort of Theo Pinson. Pinson, who led UNC in +/- at +8 and finished with 7 pts and 8 rebounds in just 16 minutes. Pinson sparked a run which brough UNC back in the game. Ultimately, the Heels had a number of chances to take the lead in the final minute, but nothing would go down.
Notre Dame moves to 2-0 in conference play and will host UVA on Saturday. UNC drops to 1-1 and will host Louisville this weekend.
