3 Questions for the ACC Weekend

Heading into Week 2, there aren’t as many high-profile games as there was in Week 1.  But that is ok and expected for several programs.  However, there are a few intriguing questions that you can take a look at.

These are three questions to watch heading into Week 2:

  1. North Carolina’s Run Game
We said it earlier in the offseason and say it again; UNC has one of the best running back duo’s not only in the ACC but in the country.  This week, they hit the road in a game that many expect the Heels to win, but let’s see how they win it.  Last week against Georgia, T.J. Logan and Elijah Hood combined for 16 carries and 152 yards, as the Heels were averaging 8.4 yards per carry and two touchdowns.  Only 16 carries when you are averaging 8.4 yards per CARRY!?!?!? Illinois is coming off a game in which they allowed -10 yards on 26 carries; but then again, it was Murray State.  Another question will be the running defense, in which the Heels are coming off a 222 yard performance from Georgia running back Nick Chubb.
  2. How Bad Will Virginia Lose?
It is pretty evident that the Cavaliers have reached a low point already with their loss to Richmond last week and now they have to suffer against #24 Oregon on national TV.  Oregon racked up over 500 yards of offense and will look to be on display again this week.  One positive factor to look at though is that the Ducks did give up over 300 yards passing and three touchdowns, and UVA quarterback Benkert is an experienced one that could have a solid evening.  But UVA gave up 524 yards to the Richmond Spiders and that plays right in the hands of the Ducks.
  3. Could this be Jerod Evans' Moment?
Junior quarterback Jerod Evans had a solid showing last week against Liberty for the Hokies, throwing for 221 yards and four touchdowns.  Now, this is the moment Hokie fans have been waiting for in seeing Head Coach Justin Fuentes’ offense with Evans controlling the team.  Players like Lamar Jackson and Deondre Francois highlighted an eventful Week 1 for ACC quarterbacks, but Evans’ performance might have not caught the eye like others.  Now is his chance.  The Vols are coming off a close win against a very good Appalachian State team, but only allowed 108 passing yards to the Mountaineers.  Defensively last year, Tennessee averaged giving up 210 yards passing and only had 12 interceptions on the year.  Evans has his chance to put himself with the rest of the ACC quarterbacks this week in front of the biggest crowd in college football history.
