2017 Safety Avery Showell Commits to Wake Forest

The Wake Forest football program has added yet another player to its 2017 recruiting class. Avery Showell, a safety out of Alpharetta, Georgia, has verbally committed to Wake Forest. Showell is not ranked by 247 Sports, but college coaches clearly have a high opinion of him, as he chose Wake Forest over scholarship offers from West Virginia, Minnesota, and Rutgers.

Showell, who is 6’1”, 192-pounds, is the 13th player (8th on defense) to join Wake Forest’s 2017 recruiting class. The staff is continuing to do an excellent job of building relationships with the prospects, creating a family-like atmosphere, and getting players to buy into Clawson’s vision for the program.

The thing that I’ve noticed most about Wake’s commits during Clawson’s tenure is that they tend to have at least one additional “Power Five” offer. Recruiting rankings are clearly a strong indicator, but more and more players are being named 3-stars now. What’s really important, is what other college coaches think of the players. Showell is yet another player who meets that criteria, and that bodes well for his chances of having success during his time at Wake.

Please join me in welcoming Avery to Wake Forest!
