2017 OLB Tyrell Richards Commits to Syracuse

It had been over a month since Syracuse football got its last commitment for the Class of 2017 in DE Zach Morton. However, on the day of the first on-site recruiting camp at Syracuse, that changed.

The Syracuse Orange went up north (if one thought that was possible in Syracuse) to Ontario to land a commitment from 2017 outside linebacker Tyrell Richards. The 6-foot-3 225 pound linebacker was also in attendance at Syracuse's satellite camp at the Hun School in New Jersey, according to Mike McAllister of Scout.com.

In an interview, also with Mike McAllister, he mentioned a reason for committing that won't come as a surprise to many fans of the Orange.

"I picked Syracuse because it's a great school and has the number one communications program in the country," Richards told McAllister. He said he picked today to commit because he decided Cuse was the school he was most interested in. He also mentioned that the coaches were ecstatic when he gave them his commitment.

With Richards's commitment, he becomes the first linebacker and fourth player overall to join the 2017 class, along with DE Zach Morton, WR Sharod Johnson, and QB Tommy DeVito. However, with another Syracuse camp taking place tomorrow and multiple prospects visiting in the coming days, it would not be surprising to see that commitment number growing very soon.
