Georgia Tech’s football freshman class ranking nationally is 60 and they’re ranked 11 out of 15 in the ACC. The 2016 freshman class is composed of 18 players: 14 3-star recruits, and 4 2-star recruits (according to 247sports).

Recruiting this year didn’t do a terrible job, but they didn’t do an excellent one either. This comes in result of the pool of players they can appeal to, because of the system they run (Advantage or Disadvantage: Georgia Tech Offense.)  Johnson recruited this class as more of a building technique, than to be an immediate help to the offense and defense. However, the players he got to come back with him to Tech are more than capable of helping out the program despite having no top starred recruits. He had a type and he went after it. It all has to fit his triple option offensive scheme.

This season’s recruiting class is loaded with defensive linemen. The D-line picked up the majority of the help with players like JUCO transfer Desmond Branch who hopes to come in and make a difference early in the season. Jordan Woods and Chris Martin are two other linemen who were brought in with hopes to bring in help to the squad. The recruiting team brought in the 320 pound Brandon Adams to reinforce the inside of the line.

The 2016 freshman class recruit to watch is linebacker Dedrick Mills who is 5-1 and 203 pounds. Georgia Tech went after him and he committed the Yellow Jackets early in the process despite having looks from other schools like Auburn and South Carolina.

Here’s a list of the new additions to the Yellow Jacket nation.
